Lambert von Oer

The knight with the spiked collar
Lambert von Oer zu Kakesbeck (1440-1522)
Lambert von Oer became famous for the legendary spiked collar. He lived with his family at Kakesbeck Castle.
At the end of the 15th century, a feud broke out between the von Kakesbeck family and the von Ascheberg family. It was over various properties belonging to the von Kakesbecks, which were to go to the von Harmen family as a bridal gift. Goddert von Harmen demanded that Lambert von Oer hand them over. When Lambert refused, Goddert lay in wait for him and put an iron spiked collar on him to force him to give in. Only a blacksmith in Münster was able to free Lambert from it.
However, neither this "collar affair" nor Lambert's death in 1522 put an end to the feud. Only a settlement in 1528 put an end to the dispute.
The spiked collar in question can still be admired today in the exhibition at Vischering Castle.
