Albert Freiherr von Lüdinghausen-Wolff

Donor of the City Cup
Albert Freiherr von Lüdinghausen-Wolff (1851-1931)
Although the direct line of the Knights of Lüdinghausen-Wolff, who once lived at Wolfsberg Castle, has long since died out, side branches have survived that still feel connected to Lüdinghausen today. Members of the family moved to the Baltic as Teutonic Knights in the 14th century.
Albert, a royal Prussian lieutenant general born in Danzig, came from the Courland line. Together with other family members, he donated the so-called town cup to the town of Lüdinghausen in 1909, which is still used today for the town's birthday celebrations.
In his will, he bequeathed his entire fortune to the poor of the town of Lüdinghausen. At his own request, he was buried in the local Protestant cemetery in 1931.
