Lüdinghausen was one of the places in the prince-bishopric of Münster where Jews were not allowed to settle. It was not until the Napoleonic era (from 1807) that the first two Jewish families were able to settle here.

After the First World War, Lüdinghausen was the main town of the synagogue district with the communities of Lüdinghausen, Olfen, Bork, Selm, Seppenrade, Senden and Ascheberg. The cemetery of the small Jewish community was located between Steverstrasse and Wolfsberger Strasse. During the November pogrom of 1938, there were physical attacks on Jews living here and damage to their property
