"First come, first served!"

Situated in the heart of Lüdinghausen, the historic and very well-preserved Borgmühle offers a wonderful sight. The mill was built on a specially dug arm of the River Stever. It used to belong to the castle. The mill was renovated by the Münster cathedral chapter in 1711 and extended in 1947.

However, the mill was not always located in this idyllic spot. There is said to have been another place in Lüdinghausen in the past where there was a mill. This is suggested by the names of Mühlenstraße in the eastern part of Lüdinghausen and a plot of land called Mühlenhöfchen.

A corn mill used to be of great importance to the town's inhabitants as it supplied them with flour products. It was in this context that the saying "First come, first served" was coined, which is still famous today.

The area on the River Stever, where the Borgmühle is located, has been completely redesigned. Benches and stone steps invite you to linger. Cultural events are also occasionally held here.
