Lüdinghausen is a member of the Cittaslow association of liveable towns in Germany. On August 4, 2007, Mayor Richard Borgmann was presented with the membership certificate, which attests to Lüdinghausen's special qualities in the following areas in particular: Environmental policy, infrastructure policy, urban quality, enhancement of local products and hospitality. Lüdinghausen is thus a member of an international movement that aims to achieve a better quality of life through sustainable and careful urban development.

Of over 14,000 towns and municipalities throughout Germany, only 17 have been accepted into the Association of Liveable Cities. As the first Cittaslow in North Rhine-Westphalia, the town of Lüdinghausen is taking on a special pioneering role.

Cittaslow - that is a town "where people live who are curious about the time they have found again, which is rich in squares, theaters, stores, cafés, restaurants, places full of spirit, original landscapes, fascinating craftsmanship, where people still appreciate the slow pace of life, enjoy the changing seasons, the authenticity of products and the spontaneity of customs, respect taste and health ...". That's what the Cittaslow manifesto says and that's exactly how Lüdinghausen is.

There are many places in the town where you can feel the Cittaslow spirit: In the urban landscape, where you can slow down wonderfully. At the evening market, where you can enjoy delicatessen specialties in a cozy atmosphere. At the many direct marketers who offer their products on the doorstep. At the culinary city tours, where our restaurateurs introduce themselves in a relaxed atmosphere.

And by the way, the snail is the symbol of the Cittaslow movement.
