"We build community"

"GemeinsamWohnen HHH" cooperative plans apartment building in the "Hinterm Hagen-Hesselmanngraben" development area / planning competition

"We don't just build square meters and apartments, we build community," say Dr. Markus Holtel and Manfred Döpper from the board of the "GemeinsamWohnen HHH eG" cooperative. They have founded a cooperative with which they want to realize their dream of living together.

To this end, they have already acquired a 1262 m² plot of land in the new "Hinterm Hagen-Hesselmanngraben" development area. "We want to construct a building that offers more than the usual multi-party house. This is to be achieved through manageable individual residential units that are complemented by spacious communal areas. These are intended to encourage community, to become the meeting point for the building community. They should invite people to do and celebrate together and facilitate activities. They provide space for encounters."

The community house will comprise around 800 square meters of living space over 2.5 floors. There will be space for several cluster living units. Suitable for singles, families, older residents, young people - "we are hoping for a good mix and can build flexibly for every need," say Manfred Döpper and Dr. Markus Holtel.

"It will be an unusual building that will challenge the planners," Döpper and Holtel are certain. In order to create the best conditions for an outstanding result, they have launched a planning competition for architectural firms.

"The innovative joint project offers many advantages," explain the two initiators. "It has an excellent location, as it is in the immediate vicinity of the two castles and the city center. It conserves resources as it will be built sustainably and modest living spaces are planned. Residents will share space, appliances and facilities. It creates community through communal spaces, activities and informal get-togethers around a shared table. "We want everyone to be able to contribute their talents and enrich the group. Perhaps even a small family will be enthusiastic about it," say Döpper and Holtel. "We also welcome younger people." Nadine Wenge
