Focus on climate protection and mobility

Climate protection and mobility are two topics that belong closely together and play a special role in the city of Lüdinghausen. For this reason, the Climate Protection and Mobility staff unit was set up in the town hall.

With climate protection manager Melissa Kley and mobility officer Vanessa Hullermann, there are now two permanent contacts in the administration for these areas. Previously, Lüdinghausen did not have any dedicated positions that dealt exclusively with the areas of climate protection, mobility and transport planning. The topics have now been given even greater importance.

"It is very important to us that we can only change these areas together and shape them sustainably," emphasizes Kley. "The administration therefore relies on the help of citizens. If you have any questions, suggestions or even your own project ideas, please feel free to contact Ms. Hullermann and myself."

A major public participation process is currently taking place as part of the creation of the mobility concept. Everyone is concerned about traffic planning and local residents often know the situation best. "The many suggestions we have already received show that our citizens are very interested in helping to shape the traffic situation in our city," says Hullermann. "We are grateful for all the information you can give us." The mobility concept is expected to be available in early summer 2022. The administration is already looking forward to the results, which will be a good basis for its future planning.

The photovoltaic subsidy programs offered by the city of Lüdinghausen last year were also extremely popular. After the first funding pot was exhausted within just a few days, the administration decided to launch another funding program. This time, too, so many applications were submitted within just one week that the funds were completely used up. "The people of Lüdinghausen and Seppenrad are therefore happy to make their contribution to the energy transition," says Kley. "We are very pleased about that."

The administration also has a lot planned for this year. For example, a Lüdinghausen Climate Alliance is to be founded - a steering group of various institutions that are already active in climate protection in Lüdinghausen, citizens and local companies and associations. The aim of this climate alliance is to collect best practice examples and jointly develop and bundle ideas for active climate protection. In a real laboratory, ten households in Lüdinghausen and Seppenrade will have the opportunity to receive advice from climate trainers. They will find out what they can do at home to actively promote climate protection. In addition, electromobility is to be further expanded in our city. Cyclists will have more opportunities to easily park their bikes in the city. Further funding programs in the area of climate protection and mobility are also being considered. The administration will report on this in more detail. If you have any questions about the plans, please do not hesitate to contact the staff in the department. Anja Kleykamp
